Castle of Prangins

Vue aérienne du Château de Prangins
Prangins lies just a few minutes from Nyon. It is an impressive example of the links between a living place and one that is steeped in history.

This magnificent complex, situated high above Lake Geneva, offers much to enthral the visitor:

• the château dating from 1730: together with its
   English-style park and kitchen garden, it has been
   meticulously restored in the old style;
• the museum, its permanent and special exhibitions
   depicting life in Switzerland in the 18th and 19th
   centuries and also covering topics from the fields of
   art, culture and society;
• its rich and varied cultural programme, which is
   regularly updated and is open to the public either
   generally or by appointment.

  Discovering the garden: old varieties, current issues
New permanent exhibition since 14 October

There’s now a new way to explore the largest old-style kitchen garden in French-speaking Switzerland and its remarkable assortment of historic vegetable, flower and fruit varieties, with an interactive permanent exhibition that mirrors the four traditional squares of the kitchen garden.
The emphasis is on both the 18th century, when the kitchen garden at Château de Prangins was laid out, and the issues that affect it today. These are illustrated by plants such as the Sept-en-Gueule pear – the basis for an exploration of biodiversity – and saffron Crocus sativus L., which will explain plant sexuality.
There are also be fun and surprising ways for children to find out more about the plants, plus an audioguide taking visitors on an enjoyable outdoor tour.
